About

Outside of Washington DC's Lincoln Theatre - Historic Hip-Hop Pic Shoot, Nov. 30th 2009

There are many things that influence what and how a person expresses himself.  I believe the community one lives in, is a major influence. What an artist born and raised in the Louisiana Bayou sees, hears, and feels is in many ways different than that of a DC native.  So, I’ve set out to study and preserve the sounds, stories, and messages expressed by Hip-Hop artists from the DC, MD, and VA (DMV) area.

As I work to examine and preserve the area’s hip-hop movement through: recording/documenting what I see in a particular setting (performances, studio sessions, video shoots, etc.) and collecting items that represent this era in history (CDs, promotional items, newspaper clippings, etc.), I will provide SOME findings through this blog.  The goal is to someday have ALL findings archived in a library or museum and/or for future scholars including myself to produce a book, documentary, and other reference materials.
